K-Prep and Pre-K Newsletter for September 5, 2019

Hello K-Prep and Pre-K Families!

This Week in K-Prep and Pre-K

This week in both classes we learned about our families, where we live, and what makes us special! We also started to explore our classroom rules; discussing what things might be problems and how we can avoid or solve them! Our number this week was zero. Next week we continue to talk about Families & Pets and we will start our regular weekly activities like Chapel, Music and PE.

Thank you to everyone who has already returned your paperwork. Next week we will let you know what items you are missing. Please make sure that your background checks and Ministry Safe training are up to date, so you can volunteer in class and attend field trips. If you need this paperwork, please let us know and we will include it in your folders next week. I am attaching a roster for our classes in the event you need to connect with other families in our class.

Thanks for all the great snacks this week! Please remember that even individual lunches need to be nut free.

You might have noticed that we changed our logo and bag colors. If you have the older bags/shirts you may still use them, but if you wish to purchase a new bag it is $12 and new shirts are $7. Please let us know by next week if you want either, so we can put in a bulk order.

Lastly, we still have openings in both our classes, so please spread the word about our awesome program to your friends! Several of our students are in both classes. If you are interested in exploring this option, please contact Alli at alli@yakimagrace.com.

This week on Fun Friday

Tomorrow morning the K-Prep Fun Friday students will have Nature Day. Please dress your child in good walking shoes and weather appropriate clothing, as we will spend the morning outside exploring.

PreK Newsletter for May 30, 2019

Hello PreK Families,

It is here! Our last day of school is tomorrow! We will meet in the classroom at 9:00 for pictures, hugs, and circle time. The luau graduation is at 10:00 in the sanctuary and we will be on the right as you face the altar. There will be a reception with cake following the program and you will find all your children’s belongings in their blue bag on a table in the Garden Room.

This Week in PreK

We enjoyed field day, learning about summer safety, having lots of playtime, finishing our last few chapters in James and the Giant Peach, making ice cream, saying goodbye, and getting excited for kindergarten.

This Year in PreK

Beyond learning our letters, numbers, and beginning to explore reading/math we have done and learned so much together. We’ve flown around the world and learned that there are diverse and exciting adventures waiting for us. We have explored the vastness of space and the oceans and examined the details of plant roots and bug wings. We’ve spent time in Creation, marveling at God’s creativity and learning about plants and critters. We have danced, sang, played, talked, laughed, had discussions (and disagreements)... learning how to communicate, test boundaries, and make good choices. We shared our joys, fears, ideas, life events, knowledge, and every random thought in between. Our imaginations are BIG like elephants and wiggly like worms... and we have had fun pretending to be all kinds of crazy and wonderful things! We spent 130 days together in regular class (50 sunny, 26 cloudy, 1 hot, 21 cold, 8 snowy, 8 windy, 1 foggy, and a few we forgot to track). Our minds aren’t the only things have gotten bigger. Together we have grown 25.5 inches, gained 72.8 pounds, and lost 9 teeth! Wow!

For many of you this is your last child in our program, we will miss you! It has been a joy partnering with you these past years.  For those who have a few more years with us, we cannot wait to welcome your littles who tagged along every day and cried when they couldn’t stay and play.  To those who have volunteered, we are thankful for all your help in our classroom this year, we cannot do our jobs without you! It has been a joy teaching your children and we will miss them and miss being part of their daily story! Thank you for entrusting your children to our care, it is my hope that their worlds are a little bigger than the day they walked into our room for the first time.  Please send us updates on their adventures… they are world changers, they are going places, and God has BIG plans in store for them!

With thanks,

Katrine and Shereé

Happy Friday! Happy Mother’s Day!

What a wonderful, sunny week. Our 3’s class finally got to do their walk to the mailbox and mail their Mother’s Day cards. It was much better weather than the weather we had in February when our 4’s class took their walk. Thank you to the mom’s, dad’s, grandma’s and grandpa’s that all came along. Also, because we are have such nice weather, we are spending more time outside. Please lather your kiddos up with sunscreen in the morning and they can also bring a water bottle from home with their name on it.

We practiced the letter Y and learned all about sports. The kiddos shared with me all their favorite sports. It sounds like we have a class of soccer players, a few swimmers, and one that loves tennis.

The end of the year is approaching, so I want to remind you of some upcoming dates.

May 21   Blue Day

May 23rd & 24th    Red, white, and blue day

May 28th & 29th Field Day / Water Play  ( modest summer attire, please)

May 30th & 31st Last day of classes (Luau Party & Program)

I want to give a huge thank you to all the families that brought Mrs. Knight and myself flowers, gift card, candles, and the many other wonderful gifts. You guys are the best. I love my job, your kiddos, and it warms my heart of all your appreciation!

Many blessings,

Crystal Lopez

PreK Newsletter for May 3, 2019

This Week in PreK

This week we continued to learn about all the beautiful people, cultures and countries in Our BIG World! We shared more about our own heritage and got to hear about what life is like for kids our age all around the world. Our letter this week was X, our number was 24, and our word family was –ell.

You will notice a little difference in our daily schedule as we work on ways to incorporate more play based learning into our day. Our parent led table will now be done during entry task time and our center time will consist of a rotation between the two teacher tables and exploration and socializing through play. We have many projects to do this month, so please try to have your kids on to school on time, so they have ample time to transition into our learning. Morning socializing is a very important time for your kids and it helps set them up for a less stressful and more productive day. Thank you to all our helpers for being flexible as we experiment to find the best balance for our class!

This Week on Fun Friday

This week we explored the world through cooking food. Mrs. Tsubota taught the kids to make Japanese Noodles and how to use their senses when cooking without a formal recipe. Mrs. Schraan shared her Norwegian heritage by teaching them to make Norwegian Vafler (heart shaped dessert waffles) and homemade raspberry jam.

News and Upcoming Events

  • Snack – Ethan, Ellie, Bella, and Joe are on for snack next week!

  • Messy Day Tuesday – On Tuesday we are doing a VERY messy painting project. PLEASE send you child in grubby clothing that will most definitely get paint on it.

  • Teacher Appreciation – Next week is teacher appreciation week! Don’t forget to say a big THANK YOU to our P.E. teacher Mrs. Carlson and our Chapel teacher Mrs. Weide. We couldn’t do what we do without them!

  • Custodian Appreciation Week – The 13th-17th is custodian appreciation week and we have a lot to be thankful for, because as you well know our kids are (wonderfully) messy learners! Be sure to say thank you to our facilities staff every day, but especially that week.

  • Blue Day- Wear blue on May 21st.

3s and 4s Newsletter for May 3, 2019

Hello Preschool Families… Happy Friday!

What a fun, busy week we had. Both classes had a great time at the West Valley Library. They got to hear some fun stories, take a tour of the library, make a fun craft, and have snack. Some kiddos even signed up for their first library card. Enjoy reading, using your imagination, and feeding your brain.

The weather has also been so much nicer. We have spent a lot more time out on the playground, soaking up the sun. Mrs. Carlson has also introduced fun outside sports like T ball. Their flexibility and coordination is so much better from what I saw at the beginning of the year.

With what time we had in the classroom, we went over the letter X and have been doing some number review. I have also been doing end of the year assessments with your child. Be expecting their finished assessments by mid month. With this, you can see for yourself how much growth your child has made, and the areas you can work on over the summer.

Just a quick reminder, the 3’s class will be doing their “walk to the mailbox” on Tuesday to mail Mother’s Day cards since they were unable back in February. If any parents would like to join us on the walk, it would be much appreciated. We plan on going right after Chapel (around 10:00.) This would give you time to grab a coffee or do a quick errand. Please have your kiddos wear comfy shoes. The weather is supposed to be nice and sunny!

Thank you for all you do.

Blessings,

Crystal Lopez
